Embarking on a Holiday Soon? Here’s How to Keep Your Vocal Health Afloat

Holidays are all about relaxing, yes please, but changes in climate, food, and routine can take a fecking toll on your voice. Whether you’re soaking up the sun, sightseeing or just spending a week blissfully sitting on your arse, here’s how to keep your voice in top shape while enjoying your break.

1. Hydrate to Celebrate

Travelling often means increased heat and exposure to air conditioning – both of which can dehydrate your voice. Carry a water bottle, set hydration reminders, or turn it into a fun family challenge. Who can drink more – you or your travel buddy?! I’ll be it’s you, pal. Want more hydration tips? Tune into Episode 5 of The Voice Coach Podcast.

2. Sun Lounger Relaxation Tactics

Holiday downtime is the perfect chance to do some sneaky check-ins with your breath and release tension. If you’re lucky enough to be on a beachside lounger, try lying in a semi-supine position for a few minutes. This simple wee trick helps reset your posture and keeps your voice relaxed. 3. Embrace the Ninja Hums

That soft, contented hum you let out when you’re at ease? It’s great for vocal health! So when you flop down on the beach after a cooling sea dip, let that hum loose! Let your lips tingle and enjoy the sensation – it encourages breath support and vocal relaxation.

4. Notice Dietary Shifts

Indulging is part of the holiday experience and I insist you do, but rich foods and late-night snacks can cause acid reflux, which can affect your voice. Pack antacids, moderate your intake, and keep up that hydration.

5. Most Importantly—Enjoy Your Break!

The best thing for your voice? Rest and fun! You’re welcome. So embrace the holiday spirit, chill out, and come back feeling refreshed and ready to take on the mic.
