Actor and Voiceover Artist
Sally worked as a subeditor at The Sunday Times for more than 10 years, an actor trained at ArtsEducational, London and a contemporary jewellery designer and manufacturer. In 2019 Sally starred in a one-woman show, The Cloak of Visibility by Louise Breckon-Richards. She is also the host of Creative Twist, a podcast about the power and joy of rediscovering your artistic dream.
I booked some sessions with Nic after recording the second series of my podcast Creative Twist and noticing how much the pitch of my voice varied depending on how well I knew my guest. I wanted to get some help on grounding myself to use more of my vocal range and avoid habitual patterns. I was also keen to improve my skills more broadly and practise some new material. I have joined in with some of Nic’s workshops on Facebook and love following her on social media so I was excited to work with her.
I didn’t want it to end! I felt that my original concerns had been met but thoroughly enjoyed working with Nic and would love to work with her again in future.
Nic gave me new tools both for my voice and recording preparation. With her encouraging and fun approach I gained in confidence and noticed more depth and variety in my recordings afterwards. On a professional front Nic also helped me to clarify the kind of work I would like to do in future.
Nic makes the whole process relaxed and fun! It was great to work on a variety of texts together, from commercials to poetry, and I also found Nic’s rigorous text analysis really inspiring – she goes into great depth with language which I love and the deeper understanding brings so much to the delivery.
