Your Voice after Time Off

How to get your voice back in shape after some time off!

Good news, you’re allowed time off recording your podcast or voiceovers. Holidays are important! And it’s good to rest your voice.

But, to ease back into your recording schedule, here are my top tips for getting your voice back in shape after some time off.

Get moist!

Hydration is key to maintaining a healthy voice. Your vocal cords should be properly hydrated, to function at their best. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you are doing a lot of recording. Remember, sometimes time off means hot countries, air con and (of course…) booze and changes in diet, which can all affect your hydration. So when you get back to real life, get back on the H2O

Check your posture.

Efficient alignment is crucial. Standing in a way that supports your voice helps reduce unnecessary tension in the throat and larynx, which can cause vocal strain. Make sure you stand or sit with your back long, shoulders released and wide, and head feeling like it’s floating gently upwards. This will help you produce a clear and powerful voice with ease.

Remember your warm up

Warmups prepare your body and voice for speaking and recording which can help prevent injury. Spend a few minutes each day doing simple vocal exercises to keep your voice in top shape. These exercises can include humming, lip trills, and gentle scales.

There you have it. When you’re stepping back into the studio after some time off, remember to bring your water bottle, warm up like you’ve never warmed up before and don’t scrimp on checking things like your posture.
