I'm delighted to announce a collaboration with wonderful Sheffield based voice and acting coach Anita Gilbert for a Voice & Text Masterclass day in June at Sheffield Theatres.
Anita and I will guide you thought the fundamentals of preparing your voice for performance and text. This day will work on general vocal technique as well as specific approaches to text, offering 1-2-1 feedback on the voice and accents and culminate in a sharing of the work covered. An outline of the schedule is below, subject to change at the discretion of the tutors.
10 - 1130 Welcome and Warm Up. A practical exploration of the full progression of release, breath, resonance/vocal quality and articulation required to bring the voice safely and efficiently onto text for performance or communication. Led by Nic and Anita
1130 - 1145 Break - tea and probably some biscuits. Definintely biscuits.
1145 - 1245 Approaches to Text - Structure, imagery and communication. Exploration of various methods and techniques to help you grasp structure, imagery and communication of language. Text supplied.
1245 - 130 Lunch
130 - 230 Group Work - putting the techniques into practice. Working in groups, with support from Nic and Anita, you will work through the methods introduced during the morning session and play vocally with an interesting piece of text.
230 - 245 Break. Optional biscuits.
245 - 415 Masterclass & 1-2-1 feedback. Looking at a text of your choice and receiving feedback on voice and accent, if appropriate. Please bring a short piece you'd like to look at for use on the day. It can be completely new or something you've been working on for a while that may benefit from a fresh pair of eyes.
415 - 445 Sharing. A brief sharing of work that has been approached during the session, allowing us to put into practice the new techniques you have been introduced to.
430 - 500 Round up, recap and teary goodbyes.
